"Long have I known from your testimonies that you have founded them forever."

~ Psalm 119:152

Do I always live according to what I know?  Plain and simple, no I do not.  That are many things that I am naïve to, but of more relevance are the many things that I am ignorant of…the things that I have known, am aware of, or have a responsibility to know but have ignored, suppressed, chosen to neglect, et c.

The psalmist here in the concluding verse of this section (v.152) stuck a chord in my heart.  He says, “Long have I known from your testimonies that you have founded them forever.”  He and I admit that the truth of the eternal nature of God’s testimonies is clearly perceived from the testimonies themselves.

I know this full well, but far too often I deceive myself to think they are not always and forever (or at least not for me in that very moment…).  When I do so, I am seeking some sort of self-justification for how I want to live to please myself (or perhaps even please others) instead of desiring to please God by seeking his righteousness for his glory.

Help me genuinely cry with my whole heart that I will keep the LORD’s statutes (v.145), observe his testimonies (v.146), hope in his words (v.147), and meditate on his promise (v.148).
